CAPRA RUN CLUB

We want to make getting out for a run feel easy, fun, and inclusive.

These group runs should be a positive and motivating part of your life.

Our run groups are all free, and everyone is welcome.

PACE GROUPS

On Saturday mornings we offer two pace groups. If you're new to the capra run groups, we recommend that you first see how the Social Group feels, before jumping in with the Speedy Group.

We run all year round. It is rare to cancel, but it does happen on occasion due to unsafe trail or weather conditions.

Each Friday we send updates and run plans out in a specific 'Run Club Updates' email. You can sign up by clicking item #2 in the menu on the left , or if you already receive our regular newsletter, just click "edit your email preferences" at the very bottom

We’ve included some pace approximations below to give you an idea of our speeds and distances. These metrics will vary depending on the technicality of the route, the elevation gain, and the overall group that shows up. All group runs are on trails, and these numbers are estimates.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

There is no registration required, BUT, you will need to sign a waiver, in-store, before your first outing with us. If you'd like to save a minute or two, a blank waiver can also be dowloaded here

UNSURE? ... Then shoot us an email or pop by the store to talk with us

HOW DO I SUBSCRIBE TO THE WEEKLY RUN CLUB NEWSLETTER?

SATURDAY SOCIAL GROUP - 9am at capra

Our Saturday Social is all about moving together in nature and creating community through conversations and movement - it is not about the pace at which we're moving. The group does between 9 & 14km in 1.5 - 2 hours, and re-groups at every intersection and viewpoints along the way (photo ops).

The group will hike up all inclines and cruise along all flats and downhills at a conversational pace. The best indicators of pace are a road 10km at 60 minutes, up and down the First Peak of the Chief in under 90 minutes, up the Sea to Summit trail in under 2:30, or up EVAC in under 2 hours.

Well behaved off-leash trail dogs are welcome, but if you're new to the group, we ask that you come out solo to start to make sure it's a good fit. Not all dogs are comfortable at running in a group and there is an expectation that dogs will not impede other runners with their bodies, or carrying sticks, or interactions with other trail users.

SATURDAY QUICK GROUP - 8am at capra

The Speedy group is a more intense group run. They are running most hills, keeping a quicker overall pace and covering 17-22km, with 600+ m of gain in their 2 - 2.5 hour time slot. The pace per km will depend on the route, but they are averaging a 6:00-7:00km on trails.

Some good indicators of speed are that you can go up and down 1st Peak of the Chief in under an hour, up Sea to Summit in under 1:30, or EVAC in an hour. This group does not re-group at every intersection and runners are expected to have a responsibility and familiarity with the trail system if they can't keep pace.

If you’re new to run club and unsure of which group to join, we suggest hopping in the social group first and then seeing how you feel; but if you know you’re thirsty for a bit more speed, then come and give it a go. No dogs allowed in the speedy group.

SUNDAYS - TRAILS 101

TRAILS 101 WITH RANDY - This is an entry level, fun, trail run group
SUNDAYS, 9am at CAPRA

If you're worried about pace or distance, call or email us at the store. (scroll to the bottom for contact info)The group will occasionally make plans to start and finish the run somewhere other than CapraSign up for our Run Club Newsletter  to receive the weekly updatesThe Trails 101 group is for people new to trail running. Maybe you've been reluctant to hit the trails alone, or you're coming back from an injury.  Or maybe you've just moved to Squamish and want to see what our backyard is all about. This is a fun and stress-free group. We will have someone from capra at the back of the group, making sure that no one gets left behind.Due to the size of the Trails 101 run group, and it's start/stop nature, we ask that you leave any dogs at home

Who leads Trails 101? ... Randy !

Randy is a strong believer in the power of just starting. Nobody ever finishes something, that they don't start.

The Trails 101 run group is a place for you to get a start at trail running. The goal of the group is to have fun, meet other runners, and get out on a weekly Sunday run.

For context, Randy made his trail debut at age 49, and his only regret being that he didn't discover that start line sooner in life. He's more than happy to encourage you on your first steps on the trail.

Come on out. Get started. Who knows where you'll finish!OTHER TEAM MEMBERSYou'll likely get to meet (and run with) several of the regulars, and a few of the other capra staff

THE TRAILS 101 GROUP IS NOT ABOUT SPEED

IT'S FOR PEOPLE WHO RUN A COUPLE TIMES PER WEEK
You run a couple times a week, and can tackle 5km-8km, but you have been a bit tentative about running in the trails.  This is a non competitive, no pressure sort of a group, where the focus is on having fun and moving together in nature.

HOW FAR ARE THE RUNS?
They will be between 3km and 7km, with between 100m and 300m of vertical gain. If you’re coming from a road running background, you’ll likely find the difference in pace and distance quite shocking. We recommend not pausing your watch, or maybe not even bringing it, and embracing the different flow and pacing of trail running. The majority of runners hike up hills on the trails and that can take some getting used to. Once you embrace the more mellow pace, and take time to look around, you’ll likely be transformed into a trail runner!

HOW FAST IS THE GROUP?
Conversational speed. The group runs when terrain allows, and hikes when it gets steep. The speed will be slightly more mellow than our Social Saturdays to adjust for those newer to trail running. We will re-group at all intersections and no one will ever be left behind.

HOW LONG WILL WE BE GONE?
It will change slightly week to week. On average we will be out for ONE hour of a mix of running and hiking. This will change based on the group, the trail conditions, the weather, and if we run from the store or drive to a nearby trail head.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Just a positive attitude! We recommend that everyone have proper trail running shoes, but it’s not necessary for just starting out. We also may have a demo fleet of shoes that you can borrow for the run. You may also decide to invest in a pack - to carry hydration and nutrition as your runs get longer and the temperatures heat up - but not mandatory for this group
